Is Washington State Safe For Barack Obama?

Two new polls out today showed Barack Obama holding a double-digit lead over John McCain in the state of Washington. This is further sign of Obama's strength in the pacific northwest as he has consistently polled well in the region against John McCain and a reflection of his success during the primary in the region. SurveyUSA found his lead at a whopping 17%

Barack Obama 56% (+4)
John McCain 39% (+3)

and more signs of the party uniting behind him as he polled at over 80% among Democrats.

Rasmussen found a similar result with Obama's lead at 18%.

Barack Obama 53% (+2)
John McCain 35% (-5)
According to Rasmussen, voters in the state of Washington are not too enthusiastic about the so-called "dream-ticket".By a 52%-31% margin, they don't want Barack Obama to choose Hillary Clinton as his running mate. This result is not surprising as the pacific northwest has shown throughout the primary a particular resistance to the Clintons.
